Some Days I Feel Trapped In The House

I am an early riser.  I get up early in the morning and spend an awful lot of time working.  My workdays often exceed 12 hours.   In fact, I often times work from 6AM till about 11PM.  I take time out for meals and other small tasks throughout the day.  When I am really motivated on a project though, I get sucked right into it.

I have windows in my home office.  But, I keep the curtains mostly closed so that nobody can see in.  Because of this, there have been times when I have completely missed what the weather was even like for the day.  On those days I am usually stuck in my office from sun up till after sundown.  At some point it dawns on me “Hey, I wonder what the weather was like today?”  Pretty sad, huh?

The worst part is that the weather has been gorgeous lately.  I live in a part of the US where we have to enjoy what summer we get.  We get all four seasons here and experience them fully.

This morning in particular, I was making my morning pot of coffee.  Then I realized that I had left a kitchen window open overnight.  I felt a nice cool, almost chilly, breeze blow through the kitchen.  The air smelled so nice and refreshing that I immediately started craving a little outdoor sabbatical.

Nothing beats enjoying a cup of coffee outside on a nice cool summer morning as the sun is rising.  Doing this kind of work really is a blessing.  I can just sit there and enjoy the peacefulness for as long as I want without having to worry about making it to work on time.  It sure makes life a lot less stressful.

I just thought I would share this because yesterday was one of those days when I barely saw daylight.  I just worked and worked and worked.  This morning though, when that cool breeze came in my kitchen window, I chose to stop and smell the roses.  I guess the sacrifice of the long days here and there is worth it.  You can’t really call this stuff work anyways.  It is too much fun.  Maybe I am just totally spoiled.

  1. Hi Kathy,
I have been reading a lot of tech things recently. For a change, I read this post. It seems like you get yourself sucked when it comes to work. Being a social being, you need to notice the surroundings. If you are a freelancer, a short vacation might do good.

    Keep up the good work,

    Jakes

    • Yes,

A vacation would be nice. I think I shall take a short one this weekend. Great idea Jakes!

  2. If only there were more time in the day, I often face this myself on a daily basis, working on projects is just so exciting it can take you away from other aspects of life. :)

  3. Hi Kathy,
I know just how you feel. I’m the same way and I have to force myself to get up, walk and walk around or just open up the front door and inhale the out doors for a minute.
This is my first visit here and already I see we have something in common. Thanks for joining BloggerLuv too. See you around – pretty soon we have to leave the house for supplies ;)

    • Yes,

It is easy to get wrapped up in something you love to do. It also makes the time fly. Actually it flies too fast if you ask me.

  4. I can totally relate. I am also an earlier riser and work all through the day…it has gotten to the point that if I do need to leave the house I feel it is a burden. I never know what is going on with the weather, the current events or anything of the such. I have to actually sit down and do research on current trends, as I am a niche marketer…My biggest source of resource is my family :)

    • Cassy,

Sometimes it is good to fast from the news. Most of the news out there is depressing anyways. If you pay too much attention to it, it will drag you down.

  5. Hi Kathy, This sounds really relaxing. I’m the opposite of you. I’m a night owl. I find taking a drive at night to be relaxing.
